Our Founder
Murphy’s an Ethnochoreologist and Artist-Activist native of Raleigh, NC, based in Charlotte, NC leading his work with the voices and stories of his ancestors. His work focuses on exposing creative arts to underserved communities and exposing them to somatic practices for wellness. He is an archivist and preserver of Africanist cultural practices and traditions. He creates safe spaces for artistic exploration through dance education and amplifies inclusivity of the the voices of BIPOC communities. He is grateful to curate positive impacts for the community through his non-profit of A Brotha’s Luv in Motion, inc, where he expands his art into community wellness in the form of healing arts.
Murphy attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he practiced dance scholarship, social practice, wellness, and advocacy. He has educated ages K-12, Adults, person with disabilities, and continues to increase his options of supporting the community through presenting at festivals, workshops, and conferences across the state. Murphy has presented many works and continues to show promise over his 10 year span of leaving his mark on the industry. If you ask him, he would say "in the dance industry every 5 years is 1, be cause it takes dedication and in practice time flies". From a young age he knew this was his future, and continues to lead this journey with a voice of promise.
A Brotha's Luuv in Motion, inc
Mission
Founded in 2020, by Monte Aset, A Brothas Luv in Motion, inc set out on a journey to uplift and share the stories of the Africanist near, far, past, present, and future, armed with the dance forms of african roots and ancestral stories. Emphasizing Indigenous/Black males in our work while embracing inclusivity race, gender, class. Through artist leadership development, community engagement, artist mentorship, and trailblazing choreography, we bring dance back to the people and empower underserved and overlooked communities a choice towards freedom.
